Patrick’s life began in motion, born in Beirut and on a plane to Jeddah just four days later. The son of a global engineer and trainer, he spent his early childhood moving between Saudi Arabia, the Canary Islands, Illinois, back to Saudi Arabia, New Hampshire and Virginia. Those years immersed him in cultures, traditions, and perspectives that shaped his worldview. His time in Saudi Arabia was spent with other ex-Pats from different cultures, something that piqued a curiosity for travel and the differing ways in which people live. At the same time, Patrick was becoming a huge music fan. “I’ve loved music my whole life, though no one in my family was musical. When I was in middle school in New Hampshire, I was in all the school plays and in chorus. Creatively, I was there for it. However, when I moved to Virginia for High School, and had to reset, all of that faded while I focused on fitting in.”
In college, Patrick majored in travel and tourism, which felt natural to him given his exposure to so many different places. At that time, travel agencies and cruise ship work were the most viable work options, and while Patrick initially focused on cruise work, he ended up coming back to Virginia where he landed a job in finance at a Credit Union. Climbing up the ranks, he eventually settled in project management, which was a perfect fit. “I went to work at Capital One and landed in their Partnership division, which involved travel, my first passion. Separately, I had taken a trip to Bora Bora, and the spark of creativity hit: My daughter Holly gave her stuffed animals distinct personalities, treating them as though they were alive. That gave me the idea for my first book series, AMAZING LISA. I took a three-month sabbatical from work and used my project management skills to put together my first children’s book, LISA GOES TO ENGLAND.” While enthusiastic, Patrick had no idea how to take a book to market. He researched illustrators, typeface and the world of self-publishing, teaching himself as he went along. He was successful and has written 8 more books in the series including LISA GOES TO INDIA, LISA GOES TO EGYPT, LISA GOES TO FRANCE and more.
While he loved creating the LISA books, inspiration hit again, in a different way. “My 4th child, Rhthym, was born prematurely with a lack of oxygen, and at around 7 or 8 months of age, we realized she was having infantile spasm seizures, which were very dangerous. I started my next book, WORLD OF RHTHYM, about a talented little girl who has the ability to play musical instruments of all types from around the world. Rather than hire an illustrator, her grandfather did the illustrations for the book, and I was much more confident in how to market and present a new series than when I’d first started.”
One of the ways Patrick publicized his books was via social media, creating book trailers for the books and writing songs to accompany them. “A musician named Annie Lynn reached out to me online saying she was looking for authors who wanted to set children’s books to music, Of course, I was very interested in collaborating.” AMAZING LISA ROCKS was the first song Patrick wrote as a result of his collaboration with Annie. The process of songwriting was so much fun for him, he started to work on a song for RHYTHM’S WORLD. He found collaborators on Fiverr for both a vocals and instrumentation, while Patrick focused on the songwriting.
Like most people, Patrick found himself at home during the pandemic, and decided to teach himself Garage Band, creating loops and beats. By that time, he’d released 5 books in each series and began to write songs for each book. His first full music release, AMAZING WORLD (2021) dedicated tracks 1-6 to the AMAZING LISA series and tracks 7-12 to the RHYTHM’S WORLD series. “I did a lot of promotion on social media and one day I asked, ‘Would anyone be interested in a podcast about Kindie’, the genre of educational kid’s music. Within a few days, I had several guests already booked. Going into it, I had no idea how to launch a podcast but with an album and two book series under my belt, I could do it! So far, I’ve done 6 seasons of KINDIE ROCK STARS, interviewing singers, songwriters and producers of children’s music including Laurie Berkner and Sharon, Lois and Bram.”
A fun side project of the Kindie podcast turned out to be KINDIES DO THE 80s. “I’d always wanted to do an album of 80’s cover songs, so when I started having guests on my podcast, I’d ask if they’d want to collab, and everyone said ‘yes’! I pieced together Volume 1, doing the best I could as Producer, but by Volume 2, I had learned to focus more on mixing and vocal effects, really owning the job of Producer. A number of songs on this album did well, so I was on to something. “
Indeed, he was. Using his project management skills, Patrick comes up with a concept for an album and then goes to work on composing. He finds that once the foundation is in place, the songs almost write themselves. “The evolution from album to album taught me something every time. For ADVENTURE TIME WITH PATRICK (2023) and PARTY TIME WITH PATRICK (2025), I linked up with my friend Erick Gatchallian, who had a music studio and plays many instruments. I came up with the ideas, wrote the songs, gave him my thoughts as to where I saw it going and he’d work with me on melodies. I was learning about good vocal mixing, good production and good instrumentation. ForTRAVEL TIME WITH PATRICK (2022) and IMAGINATION TIME with PATRICK (2024), I did song writing, mixing, vocals and production on my own as well as making short videos to accompany each track.”
STORY TIME, his current release, is a proper follow up to his first album, AMAZING WORLD. A ten-track jam, Patrick covers his last 8 released books: 4 from the LISA series and 4 from the RHYTHMseries, plus two additional songs. “This time, I added in a song, “Story Time”, to introduce myself and tell what writing these series means to me. The music is a true accompaniment to each of the books, a 3-to-4-minute song about the book itself. The last track is called “Sneak Preview” about books that are coming up. I pledged to write 15 books per series, so I have a way to go!”
Not content to just write books, host a podcast and put out music, Patrick now has an alter ego called Mr Daddy Cool. Feeling that the name ‘Patrick Adams’ was a bit generic, he chose the name Mr Daddy Cool because he loves the Boney M song and wanted to create even more music for elementary school kids. He has three singles out, “He’s So Cool,” “Dad Jokes” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids.” You can also find Mr Daddy Cool on Tik Tok posting daily dad jokes!
There’s no arguing that Patrick Adams is a successful self-made author, self-taught songwriter, producer and podcast host. He has been entertaining children and adults since 2015, first with his book series and then with his music, which has won 3 National Parent Product Awards, a Family Choice award and a ‘CD of the Year’ Award from Creativechild.com. One of his proudest moments was being accepted into the Recording Academy. “Being accepted into the RIAA was a tangible indicator that I’d come really far and had become part of the Grammy process musically. That has been a crowning achievement.”
For Patrick, each book he writes, or song he produces, or Dad joke he tells is an extension of him and a life shaped by travel, music, family and creativity. His work is a celebration of learning, new cultures and song, all things that bring him joy. As he looks to the future, he remains committed to projects that make people smile the world over.
